Atlantis

So you know how everyone believes that Atlantis is buried under the sea? Some people think that the whole city itself sunk. How crazy!?!?!?! Well unlike the cartoons and documentaries over the years lead us to believe, this isn't the case. In all reality, Atlantis got hit with a massive tsunami 4,000 years ago. The city of Atlantis is believed to be located now buried in mud on the southern tip of Spain.

"In 2004, a German physicist Rainer Kuhne identified some strange features on satellite photos. Swamps at the mouth of Spain’s Guadalquivir River, northwest of Cadiz, held strange geometric shadows that some thought resembled the remains of a ringed city." - www.popsci.com

To follow up on what the German physicist found out, teams of researchers from three countries used all kinds of weird machines like ground-penetrating radars, electrical resistivity tomography, magnetometers and spectrometers to map the ground and sniff out evidence of human-built objects buried in the mud. They say they found a communal oven and evidence of canal systems buried in Spain’s DonaƱa National Park.
People have been looking for Atalntis since Plato first spoke of it. I remember reading about him saying it was there and then over night, it was gone. Atlantis was presumed to be near the pillars of Hercules.Scientist refer to the site as the Strait of Gibraltar. Well this finding just so happens to be just north of that place.

All this time, I've grown up with the dream to one day uncover Atlantis myself. What a bummer to find out it's buried in the mud rather than the sea!

Death. Most of us never want it to happen. We never like it when other's die around us. How terrible does it feel to loose your grandma and grandpa. Mom and Dad. For some of us, our children. For all of my life, someone in my family, or at least a really close friend of the family has died every year. Sometimes a few within a year. Everytime was the same. I felt that horrible headache creep up on me within the first half hour of hearing the news. How I loathed getting dressed up to go sit in a funeral home for however so long. Listen to a sermon that most likely wouldn't have been picked out by the person whose funeral we're at anyway. Meanwhile, the whole time at the place, all I can think about is coffee. I don't know if it's a nervous habit. Or maybe it's something I've picked up from someone at a young age. All I know, is that I'm never more bored, and I'm never more depressed than at a funeral. In a funeral home first. And then maybe a church. But always a cemetary. With lots of rain. And gloom. As if the sky knew I was miserable, and wanted me to feel what misery I'm spreading to the people around me. How terrible of a time this part of the year is. Close to the holidays and all. I'm already missing you. This plain "music" playing out of the non-existent speakers in this cheaply made funeral home is making my ears bleed. These heels are killing my feet! I don't know how much more I can stand of this. Remind me again why we spend most of our day here? Why can't we do something only you would love to do? Rather than make our heads and bodies feel much worse than they already do. R.I.P. Grandma Betty.

When thinking about where I want to travel during my life on the sea, I can't help but want to visit most of the famous hot spots in the world. Now of course your definition of hot spot is most likely different than mine, but each of us do share the same feeling of adventure and wanting to explore the places that seem precious to us. So today I'd like to focus on some great sailing destinations across the world.

Destination Number One

Paradise Bay- Antarctica

Guess who's door we're about to knock on? That's right, penguins! This is the most visited spot in Antarctica. Being surrounded by all kinds of chilly mountains, and icebergs all day might make one think they'd catch a cold. Actually, it's the heat that carries bacteria. Fun fact.

Destination Number Two

The Bay of Islands- New Zealand

Made up of 144 islands, this is the first part of New Zealand to get settled on by us humans. So not only do you get to experience the wonderful warmth of the salty water, watch whales come closer than ever to shore and tan to your hearts content, but you also get to bring home tourist items from the local gift shops and eateries.

Destination Number Three

The Bay of Kotor- Montenegro

How much more beautiful can this get? Not much if you ask me. This is the perfect place to take a loved one for a hike through crazy cliffs to see all those ruins archaeologists love so much. What a grand journey it would be to travel across the ocean to the Adriatic Sea. Make a stop in Italy for some lovely wine (when you become of age of course),fine scenery, music, romantic influence and stars we've never seen before!
Can you recall your very first memory? Did it have an impact on the way you live your life now?

This was an essay topic I encountered while in High School. Ugh. What a time. Not a day went by that there wasn't a moment where I stared out the nearest window, imagining I was out on the open sea. Class could not compare to what I learned while sailing around the Great Lakes with my Mother.

Benefits of being a young Sailor
  • Sea-Legs
  • Learn how to stay clean in all types of environments
  • Get rocked to sleep
  • Play music as loud as you want
  • Fishing all the time!
  • Explore places, that can't be driven to by any means
A good thing to take into consideration if ever wanting to be a sea-worthy mate is, morning starts before dawn. And night ends way after dark. Everything that happens in between requires labor. And labor always makes you tired. Wether it be swabbing the deck, or raising the sails, every task completed on the go, is quite strenuous.

That's why my number one leading role model was Popeye the Sailor Man. I'm sure every kid liked cartoons just as much as I did, so mi madre would buy me a VHS of one of the many adventures of Popeye whenever we came to shore. Popeye not only helped me mentally through the ruff times out on the water, he also introduced me to my favorite food, spinach.

Another one of my Hollywood influences while living abroad was, Creature from the Black Lagoon. Most people were frightened by this film when it was released in theaters. But not I. I had to be stronger, learn how to defend from an enemy as such a creature. Which brings me to my conclusion tonight. Thank you, and I hope you all enjoy the shows!
